TLDR A COVID-19 infected patient with chronic kidney disease experienced worsened kidney function, hair loss, and unexpected wart clearance.
The document is a case study of a 60-year-old male with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) who experienced Acute Kidney Injury (AKI), hair loss, and spontaneous resolution of facial warts after contracting COVID-19. Post-infection, the patient's serum creatinine levels, a marker of kidney function, increased significantly, leading to the need for peritoneal dialysis. The patient also experienced hair loss, likely due to telogen effluvium, a condition triggered by factors such as fever and infection. Interestingly, the patient's facial warts resolved spontaneously, possibly due to changes in the immune response caused by COVID-19. The patient's hair began to regrow two months post-infection. The case suggests that COVID-19 can have diverse impacts on CKD patients, including kidney damage, hair loss, and potential clearance of HPV infections. The patient did not receive any post-infection drug treatment, ruling out drug-induced complications. The authors call for further research into the inflammation and immune activation caused by COVID-19.
