    Fever, also known as pyrexia, is a temporary increase in body temperature, often due to an underlying infection or illness. It is a common immune response where the body raises its temperature to create an environment less favorable for pathogens, such as bacteria and viruses, to thrive. While a fever can be uncomfortable, it is generally a sign that the body is fighting off an infection.
