medications that reduce blood cholesterol levels, often called statins

Cholesterol-lowering drugs, commonly known as statins, are medications designed to reduce levels of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol in the blood. By inhibiting the enzyme HMG-CoA reductase, these drugs help prevent the buildup of cholesterol in the arteries, thereby reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases such as heart attacks and strokes.
