TLDR Antibiotics often cause skin reactions, making them a major health concern.
Cutaneous adverse drug reactions (CADRs) to antibiotics are a significant global health concern, with incidences ranging from 1-5% depending on geographic location, and potentially representing up to 60% of all adverse drug reactions. Antibiotics, being the most prescribed drug group, are major contributors to both severe and non-severe CADRs. The review of current literature highlights the importance of clinicians having the knowledge to prevent, diagnose, and manage these reactions effectively. This understanding is crucial for improving patient outcomes and reducing the burden of medication-related harm.
