TLDR Different treatments for PCOS should be tailored to the individual, including lifestyle changes and various medications.
The document reviews current treatment approaches for Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), emphasizing the need for personalized treatment plans. PCOS, affecting 6% to 13% of women of reproductive age, is managed through a combination of diet, exercise, and restoration of the gut microbiome. Pharmacological treatments include oral contraceptives, anti-androgens, insulin sensitizers, ovulation inducers, calcium and vitamin D supplements, statins, GLP-1 agonists, inositols, and IL-22 therapy. While the ideal treatment would address the root causes of PCOS, this is challenging due to incomplete understanding of the syndrome's pathogenesis. Therefore, a multimodal approach is recommended to manage PCOS and its comorbid conditions, such as type 2 diabetes, obesity, hyperlipidemia, depression, and infertility.
