August 1948 in “Journal of Investigative Dermatology” The study investigated the effects of intensive calcium pantothenate therapy on 14 patients with subacute and chronic discoid lupus erythematosus, particularly affecting the scalp. Patients received 400 mg of calcium pantothenate daily, with no additional therapies except a bland covering paste. The treatment showed improvement in the inflammatory phase of the disease, especially in subacute cases, and was well-tolerated without adverse reactions, unlike other treatments such as sodium paramino-benzoate. In some cases, therapy was paused to assess its impact, and calcium lactate was tested as a substitute without success. Only one patient developed new lesions during the treatment, and some required additional phenol cauterization.

November 1981 in “Indian Journal of Dermatology Venereology and Leprology” Two adolescent girls with premature greying of hair were treated with 200 mg of calcium pantothenate daily. Over follow-up periods of 29 and 13 months, 757 and 1,069 grey hairs, respectively, were observed to have turned black. This suggested that hair greying was reversible in some cases, indicating the need for further studies. A method for assessing the effectiveness of treatments for grey hair was also described.
