Precise Diagnosis and Therapeutic Effect Evaluation by Dermoscopy and Calcium Fluorescent White Staining for Tinea Capitis and Other Hair Fungal Infection

    The study applied dermoscopy and calcium fluorescent white staining for early diagnosis and efficacy evaluation of tinea capitis (TC) and other hair fungal infections. Involving 20 patients, the study identified Microsporum canis as the most common dermatophyte (65%). Dermoscopic findings included perifollicular scaling (100%), diffuse scaling (75%), red background (60%), white sheath around the proximal hair shaft (45%), and comma hair (30%). Under UV-dermoscopy, different fungi exhibited distinct fluorescence patterns. Calcium fluorescent white staining effectively detected fungal spores and hyphae, enhancing diagnostic accuracy. Combining various diagnostic methods, including dermoscopy, UV-dermoscopy, and molecular identification, enabled precise diagnosis of fungal infections in various hair types.
