TLDR Putting calcipotriol ointment on the skin once doesn't change calcium levels in the body right away.
The study from 1996 involved ten patients with chronic plaque psoriasis who applied a single dose of calcipotriol (50 µg/g) ointment or placebo to assess the acute effects on systemic calcium homeostasis. Over a 9-hour period, no significant changes were observed in serum and urine parameters related to calcium homeostasis after the application of calcipotriol compared to placebo. The authors concluded that a single 6 g application of calcipotriol does not acutely affect systemic calcium levels, implying that its effects on calcium homeostasis are likely due to genomic mechanisms when used in higher doses over an extended period.
