Effects of UV-Induced Photoaging on the Hair Follicle Cycle of C57BL6/J Mice

TLDR UV exposure causes hair thinning, graying, and changes in hair growth cycles in mice.
The study on C57BL6/J mice found that chronic UV exposure disrupted the hair follicle cycle, with UVB prolonging the anagen phase and increasing hair shaft growth through Wnt pathway activation, while UVA caused hair follicle miniaturization, increased gray hair, and reduced hair follicle stem cells, indicating photoaging. Both UVA and UVB exposure led to oxidative stress and inflammation, highlighting the importance of protecting skin from UV radiation to maintain healthy hair growth.
