TLDR Women with pattern hair loss may have more stress in their bodies due to a lack of NRF2, a protein. Eating healthy and losing weight could help reduce this stress and improve hair loss. NRF2 boosters might also help treat this type of hair loss.
The study "Serum nuclear factor E‐2‐related factor 2 in female pattern hair loss" included 30 patients with Female Pattern Hair Loss (FPHL) and 30 healthy volunteers. The researchers found that the serum level of total oxidant capacity (TOC) and oxidative stress index (OSI) was significantly higher in FPHL patients, while the serum level of nuclear factor erythroid-2-related factor 2 (NRF2) and total antioxidant capacity (TAC) was significantly lower. There was a significant negative correlation between TAC and BMI, and a significant positive correlation between OSI and BMI. The study concluded that systemic oxidative stress in FPHL may be due to NRF2 deficiency. NRF2 activators may help in the treatment of FPHL. The study also suggested that a healthy diet and weight reduction may help in improving oxidative stress and subsequently improving FPHL.
