TLDR A new hydrogel with micronized amnion helps achieve better, scar-free skin healing.
The study investigated a hydrogel derived from the skin secretion of Andrias davidianus (SSAD) loaded with micronized amnion (MA) for its potential in complete, scarless skin regeneration. The SSAD hydrogel promoted the migration and proliferation of amnion stem cells and human keratinocytes, and inhibited their apoptosis. In a rat model, the SSAD loaded with MA achieved significantly better skin regeneration than SSAD or MA used alone, including the regeneration of skin appendages and scarless healing. The study also found that the SSAD group had a higher fraction of monocytes and M2 macrophages, which are beneficial for wound healing, compared to the control group. The SSAD hydrogel could be a promising solution for scarless healing of large-area skin traumas, but further studies are needed to ensure its safety in humans.
