TLDR The new wound dressing helps skin heal completely, including blood vessels and hair growth.
The study reported the development of a multifunctional wound dressing that combined quaternized chitin and silk fibroin through electrostatic self-assembly, resulting in a nanofibrous structure with significant antibacterial properties. This dressing demonstrated flexibility, tensile strength, and broad-spectrum antibacterial activity against E. coli and S. aureus. Notably, it accelerated vascular reconstruction within 15 days and promoted hair follicle regeneration to levels comparable to normal tissue, with 22 ± 4 hair follicles per mm². The study highlighted the potential of this dressing for complete skin regeneration, including vasculature and hair follicles.
