TLDR The new wound dressing helps skin heal completely, including blood vessels and hair growth.
The study reported the development of a novel wound dressing that combined quaternized chitin and silk fibroin through layer-by-layer electrostatic self-assembly, resulting in a nanofibrous structure with significant mechanical strength and broad-spectrum antibacterial activity. This dressing demonstrated the ability to accelerate vascular reconstruction within 15 days and regenerate hair follicles at a density of 22 ± 4 mm−2, closely resembling normal tissue density of 27 ± 2 mm−2. The findings suggested that the combination of materials and the hierarchical structure of the electrospun nanofiber contributed to these regenerative capabilities, offering a promising approach for complete skin regeneration.
