The Functions of Ocu-miR-205 in Regulating Hair Follicle Development in Rex Rabbits

    TLDR Ocu-miR-205 affects hair density in Rex rabbits by promoting cell changes and influencing hair follicle phases.
    The study investigated the role of ocu-miR-205 in hair follicle development in Rex rabbits, focusing on dermal papilla cells (DPCs). It was found that ocu-miR-205-5p was more highly expressed in low hair density DPCs compared to high density ones. This miRNA increased cell proliferation and apoptosis, altered cell cycle processes, and influenced the expression of genes in the PI3K/Akt, Wnt, Notch, and BMP signaling pathways. It also affected protein phosphorylation levels, promoting Akt phosphorylation. While primary follicle density remained unchanged, secondary and total follicle densities were affected, with an increased secondary/primary ratio observed 14 days post-injection. Overall, ocu-miR-205 promoted DPC apoptosis and influenced hair follicle transition from growth to regression and resting phases, impacting hair density in Rex rabbits.
