Preparation and In Vivo Evaluation of Lecithin-Based Microparticles for Topical Delivery of Minoxidil

    In the 2017 study, researchers developed lecithin-based microparticles in a 5% minoxidil solution to improve the drug's topical delivery and reduce skin irritation. The in vitro results showed that the new formulation had better skin penetration and retention compared to a commercial solution. In vivo tests on an unspecified number of C57BL/6 mice over 16 days demonstrated that the lecithin-based solution was as effective in promoting hair regrowth as the commercial product and also significantly improved skin conditions by preventing issues like dryness and irritation. Histological analysis supported these findings, showing an increase in hair follicle size and number. The study concluded that lecithin-based microparticles could be a promising alternative to traditional minoxidil solutions for hair growth without adverse skin effects.
