TLDR HX109 herbal extract helps hair grow by boosting cell growth and reducing cell death.
The study found that the herbal extract HX109, composed of Taraxacum officinale, Cuscuta australis, and Nelumbo nucifera, promotes hair growth by enhancing cell proliferation and reducing apoptosis in hair follicle dermal papilla cells (HFDPC) and C57BL/6J mice. HX109 increased cyclin B1 expression and decreased the bax/bcl-2 ratio, facilitating the S-G2/M phase transition in HFDPCs. Oral administration of HX109 at 300 mg/kg significantly promoted hair growth in mice. The results suggest HX109 as a potential ingredient for hair growth products without the hormonal side effects associated with finasteride.
