TLDR The finasteride patch effectively treats hair loss by enhancing skin absorption.
The study developed a finasteride transdermal patch using an ion-pair strategy with O-acylmenthols as permeation enhancers for treating androgenetic alopecia. The patch showed effective pharmacokinetic properties with a flatter blood concentration profile and comparable bioavailability to oral administration. The combination of ion-pair and O-acylmenthols enhanced drug permeation by disrupting the stratum corneum's lipid barrier, promoting finasteride release. This method offers a promising alternative to oral finasteride, potentially reducing systemic side effects and improving patient compliance.
