Enhancement of Hair Growth Through Stimulation of Hair Follicle Stem Cells by Prostaglandin E2 Collagen Matrix
December 2022
in “Experimental cell research”
TLDR Prostaglandin E2 collagen matrix may help stimulate hair growth.
The study investigated the effects of a prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) collagen matrix on hair growth, using a mouse model of hair loss. The PGE2 was conjugated with collagen to create a matrix that prevents rapid degradation of PGE2 in the body. The physical properties of the matrix were measured, and its impact on hair growth was assessed through subcutaneous injections in mice. The treatment with the PGE2 matrix resulted in an increased proportion of hair follicles in the early growth stage and improved the presence of hair follicle stem cell markers such as Sox9+ and Lgr5+. The findings suggest that PGE2 plays an effective role in stimulating hair follicle growth during the anagen phase of the hair cycle and that the PGE2 matrix could be a promising new treatment for hair loss disorders.
