TLDR Sargassum fusiforme extracts help promote hair growth.
The study investigated the effects of ethanol extract (ET) and ethyl acetate fraction (FR) of Sargassum fusiforme on hair growth using C57BL/6 mice and HaCaT cells. Over 21 days, ET and FR promoted hair regrowth in mice at doses >20 mg/kg, confirmed by macroscopic observation and tissue staining. Additionally, ET and FR stimulated the expression of keratinocyte growth factor (KGF) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) mRNAs in a dose-dependent manner, while transforming growth factor-beta1 (TGF-β1) was not activated. These findings suggested that ET and FR effectively promoted hair growth and relevant gene expression in both in vitro and in vivo models.
