TLDR Cudrania tricuspidata and Sargassum fusiforme extracts improved hair growth in mice by affecting growth-related genes.
The study found that both oral and topical application of Cudrania tricuspidata and Sargassum fusiforme extracts significantly increased hair growth rate and hair follicle length in C57BL/6 mice. This was achieved by upregulating genes associated with the anagen (growth) phase of hair growth, such as Catenin Beta 1 (Ctnnb1), platelet-derived growth factor (Pdgf), vascular endothelial growth factor (Vegf), and Wnts, and downregulating Oncostatin M (Osm), a gene associated with the catagen-telogen (resting and shedding) phases. The results suggest these extracts could potentially be used to develop treatments for hair loss.
