TLDR The formulation with oleic acid may be better for treating male pattern baldness.
The study developed a dutasteride-loaded lipid-based nanoparticle (DST-LNP) system using oleic and stearic acid for topical delivery to treat male pattern baldness. Two formulations were compared: one with oleic acid (Formulation A) and one without (Formulation B). Formulation B, which excluded oleic acid, showed higher entrapment efficiency (96.7% ± 4.4), better stability over 50 days, and higher dermal permeation (17.7% ± 0.7) compared to Formulation A. The study concluded that Formulation B was more effective for topical delivery due to its higher stability, entrapment efficiency, and permeation, offering a promising approach for treating androgenic alopecia with reduced systemic side effects.
