TLDR Hair loss significantly affects European men's self-esteem and concern about aging, with these feelings being common across four countries.
In a survey conducted 24 years ago, 1,717 men aged 18-40 from France, Germany, Italy, and the UK were asked about their attitudes towards hair loss. The study found that self-reported hair loss was significantly associated with negative effects such as dissatisfaction with hair appearance, concern about looking older, and the perception that their hair loss was noticeable to others. The impact of hair loss was consistent across the four countries, although slightly less pronounced in the UK. The study concluded that male pattern hair loss had significant negative effects on men in these countries, with the degree of perceived noticeability of hair loss being a significant contributor to these negative effects.
