TLDR Higher alarin levels might link hair loss and metabolic syndrome.
This study explores the potential link between androgenetic alopecia (AGA) and metabolic syndrome (MetS) through the neuropeptide alarin. It involved 50 male patients with AGA and 30 healthy controls. The findings revealed that patients with AGA had significantly higher levels of anthropometric measures, serum lipids, fasting blood glucose, and alarin compared to controls. Notably, 82% of the AGA patients met the criteria for MetS. The study concluded that elevated serum alarin levels might represent a potential link between AGA and MetS, suggesting a possible association between these conditions.
