TLDR No clear link between hair loss and metabolic syndrome, but some differences in blood pressure and glucose levels.
This study investigated the relationship between androgenetic alopecia (AGA) and metabolic syndrome (MS) in 74 male AGA patients and 42 controls. The study found no significant difference in the rate of MS between AGA and control groups. However, AGA patients had significantly high systolic blood pressure levels, while control group had significantly high fasting blood glucose and waist circumference levels. The study suggests that the pathophysiological connection between AGA and MS has not been completely elucidated.

Scalp biopsies are crucial for diagnosing hair loss conditions like Diffuse Unpatterned Alopecia (DUPA) and retrograde hair loss, as treatments like finasteride and dutasteride may not be effective if other conditions are present. Combining PPAR-GAMMA agonists with retinoids could improve treatments for conditions like Lichen Planopilaris.
