Association of Androgenetic Alopecia with Metabolic Syndrome

    Image of study
TLDR People with androgenetic alopecia are more likely to have metabolic syndrome.
This study examined the link between androgenetic alopecia (AGA) and metabolic syndrome (MetS) in 90 patients, split evenly between an AGA group and a control group. It found a significant association, with an odds ratio of 2.4, indicating that individuals with AGA are more likely to have MetS. Specifically, 60% of the AGA group had MetS compared to 15.5% in the control group. The study suggests that AGA could serve as an indicator for MetS, highlighting the importance of early MetS screening and lifestyle adjustments for individuals with AGA to prevent complications. However, the study's small sample size, geographic limitation, and reliance on self-reported data may limit the generalizability of the results.
