TLDR Early-onset AGA shows different hair and metabolic characteristics compared to normal-onset AGA.
This study compared metabolic syndrome parameters and hair characteristics in 40 participants with either early-onset or normal-onset androgenetic alopecia (AGA). Significant differences were found in telogen hair rate and trichoscopic hair characteristics between the groups. Metabolic parameters such as triglycerides, fasting blood glucose, HbA1c, and HDL also differed, with the normal-onset group showing a higher prevalence of metabolic abnormalities. These findings suggest a potential link between AGA and metabolic syndrome, though further research with larger samples is needed to clarify this relationship.

Scalp biopsies are crucial for diagnosing hair loss conditions like Diffuse Unpatterned Alopecia (DUPA) and retrograde hair loss, as treatments like finasteride and dutasteride may not be effective if other conditions are present. Combining PPAR-GAMMA agonists with retinoids could improve treatments for conditions like Lichen Planopilaris.

TE (telogen effluvium) is often misunderstood and is triggered by severe stress or trauma, not minor daily inconveniences. Most hair loss cases are due to male pattern baldness (AGA), and treatments like Minoxidil and finasteride can help.

Hair loss varies due to genetic sensitivity to DHT and other factors. Treatments discussed include finasteride, minoxidil, RU58841, and microneedling.
