TLDR Early-onset hair loss in young males is linked to a higher risk of metabolic syndrome.
The study conducted at Mayo Hospital Lahore with 202 participants found a significant association between early-onset androgenetic alopecia (AGA) and metabolic syndrome in young males aged 20-36. AGA patients had a fourfold increased risk of metabolic syndrome compared to controls, with notable differences in serum triglycerides and waist circumference. The study suggested that AGA could be a risk factor for cardiovascular disease and recommended early screening for metabolic syndrome in AGA patients. Despite acknowledging discrepancies and the need for further research with larger populations, the study concluded that AGA is significantly associated with metabolic syndrome.
