Relation of Urinary Stone Disease with Androgenetic Alopecia and Serum Testosterone Levels

    TLDR Balding and low testosterone increase risk of urinary stones.
    This study investigated the relationship between urinary stone disease, androgenetic alopecia (AGA), and serum testosterone levels. The results showed that the risk of urolithiasis increased with vertex pattern alopecia and total alopecia compared to those with no hair loss. In the severe balding group, the presence of testosterone deficiency was significantly more frequent in patients with urinary stone disease. The study suggests that testosterone may increase the risk of urolithiasis by promoting stone formation and suppressing renal osteopontin expression. The study also highlights the role of androgens in AGA pathogenesis and their association with other diseases such as prostate cancer and insulin resistance. However, further studies are needed to confirm these findings.
