TLDR Severe vertex pattern hair loss may indicate a higher risk for artery plaque buildup.
This document is a compilation of studies that aimed to investigate the potential link between androgenetic alopecia (AGA) and atherosclerosis, a condition where plaque builds up in the arteries and can lead to heart disease. The studies found that patients with severe vertex pattern AGA had significantly thicker carotid intima-media thickness (CCA IMT), which indicates subclinical atherosclerosis. However, there was no evidence of a meaningful association between AGA and ECHO/ExECG findings, the diagnostic tools for assessing coronary artery disease. The studies suggest that patients with severe vertex AGA should be carefully examined for possible cardiovascular disease.
