This study from 2007 aimed to investigate the prevalence of androgenetic alopecia (AGA) among Asian men and its association with smoking. The study included 740 men aged 40-91 years, and the prevalence of AGA increased with age. The study found a statistically significant association between smoking and moderate or severe AGA, even after adjusting for age and family history of AGA. The study also found positive associations between moderate or severe AGA and current cigarette smoking of 20 cigarettes or more per day, smoking intensity, and dyslipidemia. The study suggests that patients with early-onset AGA should receive advice early to prevent more advanced progression.
