TLDR Balding in men might indicate a higher risk of metabolic health issues.
The study investigated the relationship between androgenetic alopecia (AGA) and metabolic syndrome in 178 adult male patients. It found that 10.1% of the patients with AGA also had metabolic syndrome. The study highlighted that metabolic syndrome was more prevalent in patients over 40 years old, married individuals, those with low socioeconomic status, and illiterate individuals. The research suggested that AGA could serve as a biomarker for metabolic syndrome, emphasizing the importance of monitoring metabolic health in patients with AGA.

Scalp biopsies are crucial for diagnosing hair loss conditions like Diffuse Unpatterned Alopecia (DUPA) and retrograde hair loss, as treatments like finasteride and dutasteride may not be effective if other conditions are present. Combining PPAR-GAMMA agonists with retinoids could improve treatments for conditions like Lichen Planopilaris.
