TLDR Platelet lysate is more effective than activated autologous platelet-rich plasma or saline in improving hair growth after hair restoration surgery.
The study examined the effectiveness of platelet lysate (PL) and activated autologous platelet-rich plasma (AA-PRP) in promoting hair growth during hair restoration surgeries for androgenetic alopecia (AGA). It included three male patients who received PL, AA-PRP, or saline in different scalp areas during transplantation, and a fourth patient who received only PL. The results indicated that PL was more effective in follicular regeneration than AA-PRP or saline, with 89% and 99% of follicular units showing hair regrowth at 3.5 and 4 months post-operation in PL-treated areas, respectively. The patient treated exclusively with PL showed a 50% increase in follicular unit density and a 122% increase in hair density at 7 months. PL also had higher levels of growth factors than AA-PRP. The study concluded that PL is a promising treatment for hair loss and could improve the outcomes of hair restoration surgeries. However, the study had a small sample size, with only four patients.
