TLDR Epidermal β-catenin activation changes the dermis by signaling different fibroblast types.
The study demonstrated that sustained epidermal Wnt/β-catenin signaling led to the expansion of the stem cell compartment and the formation of ectopic hair follicles, accompanied by fibroblast proliferation and ECM remodeling in the dermis. It was found that epidermal Hedgehog (Hh) and Transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β) signaling mediated these dermal changes. Inhibition or deletion of these pathways prevented the β-catenin-induced dermal reprogramming and ectopic follicle formation. Specifically, epidermal Shh stimulated the proliferation of papillary fibroblasts, while TGF-β2 influenced the proliferation, differentiation, and ECM production of reticular fibroblasts. The study concluded that the dermal response to epidermal Wnt/β-catenin signaling was dependent on distinct fibroblast lineages responding to different paracrine signals.

community Better Than Minoxidil? Topical Sodium Valproate

      in Research/Science  53 upvotes 9 months ago
Topical sodium valproate may promote hair growth by inhibiting GSK3β, allowing beta-catenin to proliferate, but it has potential side effects and requires more research. The conversation also mentions skepticism about a product called Vdphlo1, which includes sodium valproate and other ingredients.

community Does melatonin dissolve in isopropyl alcohol

in Technology  7 upvotes 2 years ago
The conversation discusses making a topical melatonin solution for hair loss treatment, questioning if isopropyl alcohol can dissolve melatonin. Melatonin is soluble in lipids and alcohol, but it's unstable and should be mixed fresh regularly; it may help hair growth by affecting certain cellular signaling pathways and has anti-androgenic effects.
