A review of male AGA treatments found dutasteride 0.5 mg outperformed finasteride frontally, topical finasteride limited serum DHT reduction, and oral minoxidil started at 2.5 mg daily with hypertrichosis as the main side effect. Low-dose oral minoxidil across alopecias was reported effective with fewer side effects, most commonly in androgenetic alopecia and female pattern hair loss. Hydroxypropyl cellulose in minoxidil solution was found to increase scalp retention and penetration about 2.8-fold in human scalp studies. Comorbidities in androgenetic alopecia were linked to endocrine and systemic diseases, potentially signaling underlying illness. Long-term tofacitinib for refractory alopecia areata produced complete regrowth in 42% of patients. Antihistamines and dupilumab for alopecia areata showed antihistamines effective as adjuncts and dupilumab producing mixed regrowth.
