Female pattern hair loss care was reported to center on minoxidil, selected antiandrogens, and transplantation, with expectations limited to slowing progression. Low-level laser therapy was concluded effective for hair growth, though optimal wavelength and dosing remained undetermined. Low-level light therapy for pattern hair loss was judged unproven because existing studies carry high bias risk. Five SNPs at 20p11 were significantly associated with androgenetic alopecia risk in a Chinese Han study. Early-onset androgenetic alopecia in Thai men was linked to 3.48-fold higher odds of metabolic syndrome. Punch sharpness, angle and follicle characteristics were found to determine wound size and success in follicular unit extraction. Conservative frontal forelock-type transplant patterns were recommended for extensively bald men and young patients showing warning signs of future extensive loss.
