    Insulin is a hormone produced by the pancreas that helps regulate blood sugar levels by facilitating the uptake of glucose into cells for energy or storage. In people with diabetes, either the body doesn't produce enough insulin or the cells don't respond properly to it, leading to elevated blood sugar levels.
