October 2022 in “Dermatology practical & conceptual” The study compared the effectiveness of transepidermal delivery of triamcinolone acetonide and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) using either fractional carbon dioxide laser or microneedling in treating alopecia areata. The results indicated that both methods were effective in promoting hair regrowth, with PRP showing slightly better outcomes. The study involved a significant number of participants, enhancing the reliability of the findings. The conclusion suggests that both treatments are viable options for alopecia areata, with PRP potentially offering a slight advantage.
October 2022 in “Dermatologic Therapy” The study compared the efficacy of topical triamcinolone acetonide application after fractional CO2 laser treatment versus microneedling (MN) in treating resistant alopecia areata (AA) in 30 patients. Patients were divided into two groups of 15 each. The laser group received fractional CO2 laser treatment followed by triamcinolone acetonide, while the MN group received dermapen treatment followed by the same topical application. Results showed no significant difference in overall treatment effectiveness between the two methods. However, the laser group had a higher percentage of terminal hair regrowth (13.3%) at the first follow-up compared to the MN group (0%). Both methods allowed for uniform drug distribution, and there was no significant difference in the degree of improvement between the groups.
