TLDR FRMS is a safe and effective treatment for acne scars in Asians with minimal side effects.
The study evaluated the efficacy and safety of a fractional radiofrequency microneedle system (FRMS) for treating atrophic acne scars in 30 Asian subjects. After three treatment sessions at 1-month intervals, 26 subjects completed the protocol. At the 6-month follow-up, 42.3% of subjects reported a 26-50% improvement in their acne scars, which was corroborated by clinical evaluations. Adverse effects included pain (average score 5.6/10), immediate swelling/redness, minimal scabbing, and transient pigmentary changes, but no worsening of skin texture or new scar formation was observed. The study concluded that FRMS is a safe and effective treatment for acne scars in Asians with minimal downtime and adverse effects.
