TLDR Genes linked to wool fineness in sheep have been identified.
This study utilized whole-genome resequencing on 28 sheep to investigate the genetic basis of wool fineness, identifying 269 genes in fine wool sheep and 319 in coarse wool sheep. Researchers found 22,133,207 SNPs and used methods like Fst, θπ Ratio, and XP-EHH to identify candidate SNP loci and genes associated with wool fineness. Key genes such as LGR4, PIK3CA, NFIB, and OPHN1 were linked to hair follicle development. Enrichment analyses highlighted significant biological processes and pathways, providing valuable insights for future wool improvement efforts and breeding programs.

User has been using topical finasteride and minoxidil for a year, seeing regrowth only on the hairline, not the crown. They also use keto shampoo, rosemary oil, and microneedle weekly, and are considering switching to oral treatments.

      community Keratin microspheres - breakthrough

      in Research/Science  14 upvotes 2 years ago
A gel of keratin microspheres promotes hair follicle growth, showing similar effectiveness to minoxidil in mice. The treatment activates hair growth pathways and reduces inflammation, with potential applications in drug delivery for hair-related disorders.

community Better Than Minoxidil? Topical Sodium Valproate

      in Research/Science  52 upvotes 1 year ago
Topical sodium valproate may promote hair growth by inhibiting GSK3β, allowing beta-catenin to proliferate, but it has potential side effects and requires more research. The conversation also mentions skepticism about a product called Vdphlo1, which includes sodium valproate and other ingredients.
