TLDR Tofacitinib is effective for treating alopecia areata, and starting treatment early may improve results.
The retrospective study analyzed the effects of tofacitinib on 125 patients with alopecia areata over a 3-month period. The results showed that 83.2% of the patients responded positively to the treatment, with 16.0% achieving complete remission. The study identified the total duration of alopecia areata and previous hair regrowth as independent predictors of response to the treatment. However, combined therapy was linked to relapse after discontinuation. No severe adverse events were reported. The study concluded that tofacitinib is an effective treatment for alopecia areata, and earlier intervention may lead to better outcomes.

Key treatments for hair preservation include minoxidil, finasteride/dutasteride, and microneedling, with additional options like specific shampoos, oils, biotin, zinc, tretinoin, clascoterone, and low-level laser therapy. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle, reducing stress, and addressing nutrient deficiencies can also support hair health.
