TLDR Exosomes could be effective for improving skin health and treating skin diseases.
Exosomes, small extracellular vesicles, exhibit significant therapeutic potential in cosmetics, skin care, tissue regeneration, and dermatological diseases. They enhance skin health by modulating the cellular microenvironment, regulating gene expression, and inducing cell differentiation. In cosmetics, exosomes reduce wrinkles, improve skin texture and hydration, enhance elasticity, and mitigate UV damage. They also promote tissue regeneration in skin wounds and treat conditions like systemic lupus erythematosus, psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, systemic sclerosis, vitiligo, and hair growth. Exosomes derived from mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and adipose-derived stem cells (ASCs) show promise in reducing inflammation, fibrosis, and oxidative stress, while promoting collagen synthesis and skin hydration. Despite their potential, further research is needed to fully understand and optimize exosome-based therapies and address regulatory aspects.
