TLDR HST and HST/F promote hair growth and may help treat alopecia.
The study evaluated the effects of Haedoksamul-tang (HST) and the combination of HST and Finasteride (HST/F) on human follicle dermal papilla cells (HFDPCs) in vitro. HST promoted the cell proliferation of HFDPCs, inhibited 5α-reductase activity, downregulated the production and gene expression of SRD5A1 and SRD5A2, and activated the Wnt/ß-catenin pathway. HST/F showed synergistic effects that inhibited 5α-reductase activity and regulated gene expression and signaling pathway. The study suggests that HST and HST/F promote the cell proliferation of HFDPCs by regulating the 5α-reductase activity and Wnt/ß-catenin and apoptosis pathway, and HST/F has a synergistic effect of hair growth-promoting activity and can be useful for the treatment of alopecia.
