TLDR Baicalin may help hair growth by increasing VEGF secretion.
The study investigated the effects of baicalin on human hair follicles and dermal papilla cells (DPCs) in vitro. Baicalin at concentrations of 7.5, 15, 30, and 45 μg/mL significantly promoted hair shaft elongation in cultured hair follicles. Although baicalin did not significantly affect the proliferation of DPCs at concentrations of 3.75, 7.5, 15, and 30 μg/mL, it significantly increased the secretion of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) by DPCs. The findings suggested that baicalin could promote hair follicle growth, potentially through the stimulation of VEGF secretion by DPCs.
