TLDR People with non-scarring hair loss often have lower vitamin D levels than those without hair loss.
The systematic review and meta-analysis of 23 studies with 10,670 participants investigated the relationship between serum 25 hydroxyvitamin D levels and non-scarring alopecia. The results showed that patients with non-scarring alopecia, including Alopecia Areata (AA), Female Pattern Hair Loss (FPHL), Androgenetic Alopecia (AGA), and Telogen Effluvium (TE), had lower levels of serum 25(OH)D and a higher incidence of vitamin D deficiency compared to controls. Factors such as age, gender, country of residence, and sample size influenced this deficiency. The study suggests that monitoring for vitamin D deficiency and providing supplements may be beneficial in managing non-scarring alopecia, but more large-scale studies are needed to confirm these findings.
