TLDR Men with early hair loss have lower vitamin D levels.
This study found that men with premature androgenetic alopecia (AGA) had significantly lower levels of serum vitamin D compared to healthy controls. 86% of the cases had a deficiency of vitamin D, while 14% had insufficient levels. There was a positive correlation between vitamin D deficiency and severity of AGA. The study suggests that vitamin D may play a role in the premature onset of AGA and that vitamin D levels should be assessed in AGA patients. Further studies on a larger population and the effect of vitamin D supplementation on the progression of AGA are required to validate the findings.
