TLDR Microneedles offer a promising, less invasive way to treat and monitor psoriasis.
Microneedle (MN) technology is showing significant promise in revolutionizing psoriasis care by improving both treatment and diagnosis. MNs can bypass the skin barrier to deliver drugs directly to psoriatic lesions, enhancing therapeutic outcomes and allowing for the co-delivery of multiple drugs. They also enable minimally invasive biomarker extraction for real-time disease monitoring. Various MN types, such as dissolving and coated MNs, offer distinct advantages, including reduced systemic side effects and enhanced drug efficacy. Recent studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of MNs in delivering drugs like methotrexate and tacrolimus, significantly alleviating psoriasis symptoms in animal models. Despite challenges in manufacturing and large-scale production, MN technology holds potential for personalized medicine, offering innovative strategies for efficient, targeted drug delivery and improved patient outcomes in psoriasis management.
