TLDR Platelet-rich plasma improves bladder function and reduces overactivity in ketamine-induced bladder issues.
The study investigated the effects of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) on bladder inflammation and hyperactivity in a ketamine-induced ulcerative cystitis (KIC) rat model. Female Sprague Dawley rats were divided into four groups: control, ketamine-treated, ketamine with PRP, and ketamine with platelet-poor plasma (PPP). The study found that ketamine significantly impaired bladder function, but PRP treatment reduced inflammation, oxidative stress, and fibrosis, while promoting urothelial regeneration, angiogenesis, and neurogenesis. This led to improved bladder function and reduced hyperactivity, suggesting PRP therapy could be a potential treatment for KIC in clinical settings.
