TLDR Specific gene variants affect wool traits in Chinese Tan sheep.
This study examined the KRTAP19-3 gene in 288 Chinese Tan sheep, identifying six unique variants with 11 SNPs, including three non-synonymous ones. The research found that specific variants, particularly variant C, were associated with increased fibre diameter variability in heterotypic hair fibres, although no significant associations were found in fine wool fibres. These findings suggest that KRTAP19-3 variations may influence wool traits, offering potential as genetic markers for breeding programs to improve wool quality. Further research is needed to confirm these results in other sheep breeds.
