TLDR H19 may help prevent hair loss by keeping hair cells young.
The study explores the role of lncRNA H19 in preventing the aging of dermal papilla cells, which are essential for hair follicle regeneration. It shows that high levels of H19 in early-passage dermal papilla cells activate the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway via miR-29a, maintaining their ability to induce hair follicles. Overexpression of H19 reduces senescence markers and boosts cell proliferation, while its reduction has the opposite effect. Lower levels of H19 and miR-29a were found in cells from baldness-prone areas. These results suggest that H19 could be a therapeutic target for androgenetic alopecia by regulating dermal papilla cell aging.
