TLDR Human cells in plasma-derived gels can potentially mimic hair follicle environments, improving hair regeneration therapies.
The study explored the use of human follicle dermal papilla cells (hFDPc) encapsulated in plasma-derived fibrin microgels (FM) as an alternative to dermal papilla spheroids (DPS) for culture systems. The research found that FM had similar morphology to DPS and DP structure, and cell viability was higher in FM than DPS, with values between 85% and 40% for the lowest and highest cell concentrations. FM also restored hFDPc intrinsic properties and induced epidermal invaginations. The DPS method showed a mean efficiency of 17.4%, while FM had a mean efficiency of 48.9%. The study concluded that FM could be a potential candidate for hFDPc encapsulation to mimic the human DP microenvironment, and is a significant step towards the development of human hair follicle regeneration therapies.
