TLDR Gynostemma pentaphyllum extract improves hair elasticity, density, and thickness safely.
This randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial involving 100 participants over 24 weeks evaluated the effects of Gynostemma pentaphyllum (GP) extract on hair health. The study found that consuming 340 mL/day of GP extract significantly improved hair elasticity, density, and diameter, with a threefold increase in elasticity and density and a fourfold increase in diameter compared to the placebo group. Participants reported reduced hair damage and dryness, although no significant changes in hair glossiness were observed. The GP extract demonstrated a favorable safety profile with no severe adverse events, suggesting its potential as a natural therapeutic agent for enhancing hair health. Further research with larger and more diverse populations is recommended to validate these findings.
